I’m lookin’ at the road race along Nothin’ to do but just drive on Trying not to let every song Be about how you are gone
But I can’t help it ‘cause you know That heartache’s every song on the radio God what I’d give for some control But that’s just the way it goes
And I need some time away from my thoughts Just give me some time away from my thoughts ‘Cause my mind has been racing Round and round my missing you for far too long
I blast a song and down the windows roll Just try’na drown out the pain in my soul The air outside’s nice and warm I know But inside I just feel cold
And I need some time away from my thoughts God just give me some time away from my thoughts ‘Cause without you I’m racing Down this long long windin’ road all alone
‘Cause you left me without warning And it hit me like a truck Like a tractor trailer out of nowhere Came right at me and struck Me out of the road And I’m tryin’ to find my way back But I can’t get around you ‘Cause I’m realizing that
Every turn I make, every breath I take Every time I move, everything I do Just brings me back to missing you
And I need some time away from my thoughts Please just give me some time away from my thoughts ‘Cause I know there’s no replacing You decided what was right, I know it’s wrong
The idea for this song emerged one day last spring on a long drive when my mind kept swirling and I couldn’t turn it off. I quickly came up with the chorus, but the verse didn’t come until much later, and then this class gave me both the occasion and the discipline to finish it. I’d like to thank Kevin Hyland, Luke Pacilio, and Jack Pacilio for their help in fully realizing the song’s potential. Hope you enjoy!
